Mini-DV or HDD camcorder w / mic inputs and manual focus under $ 500?

Augh! I'm just going crazy! I'm trying to find a good, solid, but relatively simple video camera. Trying to keep it under $ 500, and there certainly are a lot of cameras in this price range ... but I can not find one that has a microphone input! Why on earth are companies that do not also this cheap feature on most cameras today? Here is the type of camera I'm looking for:-Preferably Mini-DV, even on an internal Hard camera would suit me just fine for-Ability to adjust focus manually (I know most cameras have this ... it easier to adjust better) microphone input. I want a lot of control on the sound in my work, and an external microphone is often the best way to gå.-Headphone jack would be nice to. I have a feeling that I need to to be contiguous to at least $ 800, but I figured it could not hurt to ask!

My Canon Optura 60 has manual focus, mic input, and aperture settings ... but is around $ 600. I go to college and want a quality camcorder recording of performances and making films, but I am unsure whether to buy a mini DV camcorder or SD.
