Digital Camcorder Outlet
I have a JVC GR-D347u "digital camera". What cable and software do I need to store a movie on my computer?
It has miniDV video Cassettes and I think a DV cable. All I have are USB outlets on my computer.
Connect the DV port on the camcorder to the FireWire port on your computer using a FireWire cable. Firewire, IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same things. USB will not work. USB FireWire cable / converter adapter thing will not work. The camcorder must be in "Play" or "VCR" mode. Microsoft Movie Maker will "Capture" video (if not, try WinDV). Apple iMovie will "import" the video. If you do not have a 1394 port on your computer, hopefully you have an available expansion slot (PCMCIA or ExpressCard) so you can add one. If there is no expansion slot so there is no way to add a FireWire port, you can get an analog / digital bridge (like those from Pinnacle - the Dazzle). Video quality will not be as good as a DV dubbing.
