A Good software to import video from my Sony Handy Cam Mini DV camcorder?

The software that came with the camcorder "ImageMixer" stinks and I was hoping there was other software that can import video from camcorder and edit? I would be happy if it was free

Adobe Premiere is the best but a bit complicated for most people. Ulead is a great substitute, strong enough yet not too complicated. Sorry I do not know any free them, apart from Windows Media Center if you have it.
