If in the past, you worked with older types of digital camcorders, and has been the difficulty in exchanging the tape frequently enough, with the newer technology is no longer needed. Digital camcorders now are equipped with hard drives, you can easily just save the entire movie, or more of them if you wish, although they need not to delete the preceding them, or even exchanging each and every case of plugging a movie.

This hard drive is like a hard drive, which is actually very similar a laptop hard drive in relation to physical appearance, capacity, physical size or features. This was invented because of the fact that the earlier you need to exchange the tape primarily hourly when their space was exhausted. With this new digital camcorder hard drive, up to 240 hours of raw film, photographic film can be kept inside the camera.

Exploit the technology

The most positive part of it is that you just can just download the whole file via FireWire or USB 2.0 in specific cases that your PC must be changed so the transfer speed is depending on the kind of transfer that you use, USB more often than not requires a wider time frame than FireWire.

In the past, camcorders had this internal hard drive was produced exclusively by JVC, Panasonic and Sony, only today with the increasing popularity and demand, there are many more producers in the market designing more modern and improved models. When the digital video camera hard drive was originally introduced in the market, that capacity was around 20 to 30 GB. But currently, there are hard drive sizes up to 60 GB. Nevertheless, almost all of the high end of those really expensive and not very common.

As a consequence of having a hard drive for video camera as the primary storage system, in special cases, is the picture quality to deteriorate, which means that it has limited storage size compared to other camcorders using different video data formats such as MiniDV and so on.

But despite this disadvantage, is this type of camcorder is nevertheless much preferred, since with a built-in digital camcorder hard drive, transfer is faster than with other devices, because of the smaller video size because of reduced quality and technological advances, such as FireWire, etc.. But a digital camcorder hard drive still favorably compared to all the lower end storage system such as tape less system where you have a compressed video format MPEG-4 and so on.
