Hey Tech Savvy People! I want to buy an HD camcorder to start posting stuff on youtube. I do not need anything fancy, but I want the best picture ... BUT for my purposes, I do not want to spend more than $ 100 or thereabouts. So it may be one of those little pocket cams. Are you tech savvy individuals have some good advice on what I should look for? For example, I see a (DXG) HD Mini Camcorder: 4x digital zoom, 5.0MP, CMOS image sensor, up to 720p resolution VS (Creative Labs) - HD Vado Pocket Video Camcorder: 2x digital zoom, CMOS sensor with 720p video resolution (no mention of MP) What `MP (megapixels?) Or, 'p' resolution should I be looking for? Thanks for your help!

Should I be afraid to buy HD?

I have tried to find the best HD camcorder for the money - and has virtually decided to buy Canon Vixia HF11, but I've read review after review, and it seems a host of people who are editing and conversion problems. I do not have an HD DVD player (or Blue Ray for the matter) or HD-DVD/Blue Ray burner on my PC. I have an Intel Pentium D Dual Core 3.0 GHz processor with 3.5 GB RAM - it will be good enough to edit video? If I wanted to make a DVD for the family, I would have to convert my video to get it to SD, so they all can see it on their DVD players (how much quality would I lose? other problems with this?) - but to upload to YouTube and others could be in HD. Should I just buy an SD camcorder and have no worries about conversions and editing problems? If it is the case ... I have no idea where the video camera to buy - I want a good quality video to shoot video of my new baby grows up! What do you do ???????

Here is a quick, first impression (from the hands of the shoot) in Camera 500D. Although we need more scientific studies to determine the ultimate picture quality and ease of use, I will try to give a hint of the camera potential.

I will not go into any real detail on kit lens which has been well reviewed. Let us just agree that $ 100 for a good quality IS (stabalized image) lens is a very reasonable value that you have no other option. There are no obvious reasons, this kit lens would make or break your choice of this camera over a competitor.

Styling and build wisely, Camera is a 500D XSi made over, not a bad thing. Some felt the camera to be a little on the small sizes of their hands, or a bit lacking in weight, but most of like size and weight (including me). It uses the same proven battery and accessories in the XSi. I have already used some generic batteries that worked well in an XSi, with similar good results, but I do not want cutting all generic drugs in the "good to go" category.

Live View has never been one of my biggest thrill, but the sharp LCD make it a little more fun. If I was still shooting macros, I want more.

But the biggest advantage of the newer screen for some will be while recording video. I just did videos in 1080p mode and were impressed with the quality. Sound was OK and I was a bit disappointed that Canon has an optional audio input (ala 5D mkII or camcorder with intellegent shoes). I is also not sure how practical the videos will be, considering they are not using a "direct to Hide player" format or AVCHD AVCHD Lite.

Also, 20fps is a bit strange to 1080p, but their software support frame grapping, which should give nice 4x6 prints (which is a bit more than 2meg per frame). The 720p is registered a more standard 30fps, which should also help with moving subjects. You can also shoot a full 15meg image while recording your videos. You videos are interrupted for about a second (you will see a still picture to the length of video playback), but the image quality will be registered in its own file (no need to frame grab). BTW, Autofocus worked during this recording, but the noise was picked up by the microphone.

OK, so I liked the camera, but how would I rate the relative to competition. Well, compared to the XSi, it is better, but maybe not worth the money. The LCD is great (that alone would get my money) and it is a no brainer if you need video or shoot lots of macros. But in resent depression and combo offer from Canon XSi should still be strong based on value.

I have also had a bit of experience with new Nikon D5000 (but still less). While introductory pricing is about $ 50 higher on Camera 500D, I thought that Canon was clearly more interesting. I like the way that Sony includes an articulated LCD, but hate it at D5000. I was constantly setting the camera down with LCD back is the first thing to touch at. To all the people who gave bad reviews about this camcorder and complain how they have problems connecting to Vista to advise you all to know what your computer can handle, and you have enough disk space and RAM memory also if this camcorder does not work on your computer .. do not blame video camera and make sure you have enough memory! I've learned to not take what these people say the bad reviews, because most of them are not computer savvy and do not know anything about computers! Where can I find a free dowdloadable driver software for my sony dcr-hc42, or a (very) cheaper than $ 30?

I have a PAL Sony camcorder DCR_HC42E. I bought the camcorder in Europe, but I am currently in the U.S. and need to do some editing on my laptop and the laptop is not recognizing my camcorder. Although I've used the same video camera on the same laptop in europe without having to install the driver. I've tried all sorts of troubleshooting. The only thing left is to install the driver software, although I'm not 100% sure that is what causes the problem. My OS is Windows XP. Any hint would be much appreciated. Thx

Voltage converter in Europe?

I'm going to Europe, but I can not tell if I need a voltage converter. I will bring a battery charger ... and the back says "Input: DC11-16V.5A" Can you get a voltage converter that is too strong, that stuff does not even work because it is so low at because of the converter? I bought a canon camcorder on a clearance rack. It did not have the software with it. I've tried to find a way to purchase it separately, but haven't found anything.
