So recently, I had done a project with my friend's two digital video cameras are Canon brand. They are MiniDV camcorders (one costing $ 1,200 and the other $ 2,500). I'm not sure exactly what model number is. At the same time I was playing around with my Canon Powershot A710IS's video recording function. After I moved the footage captured the two MiniDV, I compared the quality to the footage recorded on my PowerShot and PowerShot's recordings actually seemed sharper, brighter and cleaner. On the other hand, seemed MiniDV grain and kind of dim. All the footage was in AVI format. Is it possible that a digital camera video quality is actually better than MiniDV? (Because: my friend's video camera is a couple years old but they work just fine.)

I am thinking of going traveling for a couple of months ... The JVC hard drive camcorder is my goal, is a 30GB one which can only last me 14hrs of video below .. Im planing on buying a camcorder but need help choosing the right one . Need Help?

So the camcorder is not for me it will be for my mom. We have a old jvc vhs-c which is kind of old and we want to upgrade a bit more (especialy since its so hard to transfer those vhs-c video files to pc and to dvd)

Now my main problem is i heard that minidv are still really popular and are good quality even if they are tapes plus they are one of the economic camcoreders.
Mind dvd/dvd camcorders are also cool but i heard they get scrathch easily plus dvd's etc are expensive, but they are easy to edit on pc.
Hard drive camcorders are right in the middle i think they are convinent in editing to pc but still will have to burn and all that procces takes long etc.

Which is my best choice in this case- I feel like going straight for a mini dv but i feel that technology will get left behind in a couple of years compare to hard disk drive and dvd. but not sure?

If you purchased a standard DVD camcorder that records in the usual mini-DVD's, you will only get around 18 minute high quality video. It did not quite double, but 30-35 minutes is better than 18! I shoule mention, however, that mini-DVD's are more expensive than the mini DV tape. There is also a hard drive cams which can accommodate around 7 hours of best quality video, depending on the size of your hard disk. Some say that the quality is not as good as mini DV, but others say that regular people like you and me, we will not notice the difference. You can record your footage right to a DVD when it is connected to a DVD burner. But if you plan to do something about editing of your video due to compression of going back and forth from camera to computer to DVD, you will lose some quality in the video, so it is best you go with a Mini DR. I do not know if you can set it manually, but it would be very helpful if it is possible to set the exposure manually. The camcorder is not in HD, if you want to watch videos in high resolution and future projects, you should consider buying him a video camera.
