Where will HD-level video camera video store?
I have MiniDV tapes with HDV video stored on them. I could transfer them to a DVD recorder, but it would downgrade video quality level. It seems that right now I can not save them to AVCHD DVDs, because the footage is in HDV format, not AVCHD. In addition, I could upload video to Blu-ray discs (Perhaps through a Blu-ray recorder), but I do not know how it would work. Is there an effective long-term way to store MiniDV HD video? (So that the actual tape is not worn with repeated use).
just buy more tapes. storage via the mini dv tape is the cheapest method so far. if you buy mini dv from online sources that could strip cost as little as $ 2.50 each

Which video camera should I buy? Panasonic HDC-HS60K or Sony HDR-XR200V?
Hey guys, I'm very new to the camcorder world wants to buy a really good HD hard disk camcorder $ 500 - $ 700 range. Recently I have seen these two following camcorders seemed really cool to me ... but now I'm confused, as I had to buy one of these two. I just got a Panasonic VDR d210 camcorder that takes Dvds. It saves them in DVD format (. Vob) and I want to convert them to ntsc or any other person who will work in Windows Movie Maker. Camera 500D - First Hands On Experience ... very positive!
Here is a quick, first impression (from the hands of the shoot) in Camera 500D. Although we need more scientific studies to determine the ultimate picture quality and ease of use, I will try to give a hint of the camera potential.
I will not go into any real detail on kit lens which has been well reviewed. Let us just agree that $ 100 for a good quality IS (stabalized image) lens is a very reasonable value that you have no other option. There are no obvious reasons, this kit lens would make or break your choice of this camera over a competitor.
Styling and build wisely, Camera is a 500D XSi made over, not a bad thing. Some felt the camera to be a little on the small sizes of their hands, or a bit lacking in weight, but most of like size and weight (including me). It uses the same proven battery and accessories in the XSi. I have already used some generic batteries that worked well in an XSi, with similar good results, but I do not want cutting all generic drugs in the "good to go" category.
By using the camera, the first thing you notice during the previous Rebels in the wonderful LCD. Yep, the images look very clean even at its original size. Do not get confused if you compare this camera side-by-side and think it's pictures are all so much better. They just look much better on such a crisp LCD.
First look at the IQ (image quality) was very impressive. I tried using the camera in a series situtations (biased, how I would use it) and got very good results throughout. Focusing was typical for a better Rebel and images looked good throughout the ISO range, based on reasonable expectations. I thought Auto White Balance is a very good job compared to previous results I had with Canon in general. They were not perfect, but tungsten areas seemed to look better than average. Overall I would say Canon made reasonable progress with the jump to 15 meg, but probably no need to swap your XSi.
Live View has never been one of my biggest thrill, but the sharp LCD make it a little more fun. If I was still shooting macros, I want more.
But the biggest advantage of the newer screen for some will be while recording video. I just did videos in 1080p mode and were impressed with the quality. Sound was OK and I was a bit disappointed that Canon has an optional audio input (ala 5D mkII or camcorder with intellegent shoes). I is also not sure how practical the videos will be, considering they are not using a "direct to Hide player" format or AVCHD AVCHD Lite.
Also, 20fps is a bit strange to 1080p, but their software support frame grapping, which should give nice 4x6 prints (which is a bit more than 2meg per frame). The 720p is registered a more standard 30fps, which should also help with moving subjects. You can also shoot a full 15meg image while recording your videos. You videos are interrupted for about a second (you will see a still picture to the length of video playback), but the image quality will be registered in its own file (no need to frame grab). BTW, Autofocus worked during this recording, but the noise was picked up by the microphone.
OK, so I liked the camera, but how would I rate the relative to competition. Well, compared to the XSi, it is better, but maybe not worth the money. The LCD is great (that alone would get my money) and it is a no brainer if you need video or shoot lots of macros. But in resent depression and combo offer from Canon XSi should still be strong based on value.
I have also had a bit of experience with new Nikon D5000 (but still less). While introductory pricing is about $ 50 higher on Camera 500D, I thought that Canon was clearly more interesting. I like the way that Sony includes an articulated LCD, but hate it at D5000. I was constantly setting the camera down with LCD back is the first thing to touch at. You can never break it, but you will certainly scratch cosmetics. The D5000 has the motor built into the body, so there is somewhat of a reduction lens. But the biggest drawback was that to D5000-board flash does not support their wireless flash system (with their new lineup, we'll have to move up to D90). The D5000 really lined up against the XSi, not Camera 500D.
The 14mp Sony Alpha 350 can be a good value-oriented competitors (when Sony offers bundles), but IQ of Canon's CMOS sensor is probably better in most moderate to low light conditions. I think you'll be seeing something soon to replace this model.
Thus, the primary competitors should own Canon XSi, the D5000 (especially if they are price around $ 100 more) and those with a bit more money, Nikon D90.
Camera 500D carries the tradition of Canon Rebels with a mass "Curbside appeal" matched with solid performance.

Can not upload video from Sony Hybrid / 2000x DV Camcorder to Windows Movie Maker?
I'm having trouble uploading my videos from Sony Hybrid / 2000x Camcorder my Windows Movie Maker on my Acer Laptop W / Vista. I use a USB port, but it will not read the connection from laptop to my camera. How can I solve this problem? It worked well on my desktop, but it is down atm.

STOP! YOU DO NOT need to return your camera! I just looked at the manual online, and I also own another Panasonic PV-GS camcorders (the 65). It is not about software, it's about cables and hardware! No CD comes with a video camera, because you do not need one! You must also not any software other than Windows Movie Maker, though you might want something like Ulead Video Studio when you get more into editing. Windows Movie Maker is very basic, and do not give much for the user. There are better programs out there. What you need is a Firewire cable (These are also known as DV, IEEE1394, or iLink). All these words it means same. Find the DV port on your camcorder. It is on the page that contains the cassette. Down near the bottom of the camera on the side is a flap. Open it to reveal USB and DV ports. The USB port is for stills, not video (this is the case for most camcorders). DV (Firewire) port is where the video magic happens! 7 Tips to Maximize Your Battery Performance
- Break In New Batteries - Although not so a great business with newer Li-Po packs as it was when NiMh and NiCd batteries were kings, it is still recommended that you fully charge before first use. What should I do? Should I try movies, or do I embrace digital camcorders?
I am a camera man, mostly in HDV, but I work also in Super 8mm film. I'm trying to decide what to do next: to buy a super 16mmm film camera (Aaton LTR) ort an EX3, or maybe Canon 7D. I want to sample movies, but the cost of it plus the limitations of the film world makes me look at the EX3 as the next step. I have the mney to buy both. But before I would like to know some opinions from people who have experience with both media and what is their attitude towards my question. Thanks for your help.
There is still plenty of appeal to use film instead of digital. There are still a number of people who use film that is why it is still available. Its a bit like the argument about music on CD, the all too perfect, and it loses its "realness" records used to have crackles and jumps, it makes some characters, music companies started to add these deficiencies in order to make the music more real. Because of the quality of the video cameras can be displayed cold and lifeless (atmosphere), but it is a personal opinion. Naturally Digital is far easier to edit and process and cost less. but it depends on your market. I dont think there is a right answer to your questions you say just opinion RR

I have a JVC digital camcorder, can I use it for a web cam if so, how?
I'm trying to get out of buying a webcam if I can use my camcoreder, hooked up to computer, how do I do it.
I tried this once. Basically you need to download any software that uses video camera as a webcam, try download.com. The idea is that you can either connect the camcorder via fire-wire or via USB. I have had problems with the sound when I use my camcorder as a webcam .. so you can get to play with sound settings a bit (or use a separate microphone) Hope that helps .. if all else fails .. I would recommend just buying a single webcam (it saves you time in the set-up).

I have a 5 yr. old Sony camcorder (DCR-TRV140 a). I want to go through old tapes and make a little editing, but I can not find my owner's manual. Plasma TV Buying Guide
Introduction
In six short sections, we will help guide you to make informed choices about buying plasma TV you need for your home or a living room, messes application, business or retail display, or executive and corporate boardroom.
The sections in this Buying Guide are arranged in a sequence and progression, that we feel are most useful in imparting important information to a plasma TV purchase. First we will take a look at the type of environment where you are setting up the plasma display. Then we will see what kind of content you want to watch TV and what kind of A / V devices you will use to determine plasma type for your needs. Then we check out important plasma specs you should know about and installation issues to be aware of. Finally, we will take a quick look on prices and other costs, problems, you might consider.

Plasma TVs Environment
Calculation of the correct distance In setting up the environment for your plasma TV, a primary consideration is to determine the screen size to match the floor plan or available space where the plasma will be displayed.

Brightness: Without sufficient brightness your image will look muddy and soft, even in a dark room. Instead, make sure that the screen is bright enough for your needs you perform your own inspection.
Panel Life: Look for a minimum of 60,000 hour panel life in your plasma specifications. This is the score, how long it would take, before your panel has half the brightness compared to when it was new. A 60,000 hours spec translates to approximately 20 years to watch 8 hours a day. (This approximation may vary depending on source and type of content, environment settings and use your plasma TV.)
Anti-burn-in/Pixel Shift: Burn-in refers to the remnants burned on the screen after a static image is left on plasma long time. To minimize or prevent burn-in, determine whether plasma panel using burn-in protection such as power management settings, full-time picture or pixel shift (both vertical and horizontal) technologies, or automatic screensaver functions.

Windows Movie for JVC camcorder! HELP!?
I made a slideshow for my daughters first birthday and I can not get it to play. I have tried to save it to a disk, but we have only CD-R. So I thought we could save it to a band of our video camera (since Windows enabled). Windows does not recognize the camcorder. We have followed the HELP menu directions, but no solution. First and foremost, if your camcorder to the PC does a firewire cable so I can not help you. But if not then you need to get a firewire cable (I got mine for $ 15 U.S. dollars at Target) You will also have a firewire port and you must know the pin. (6 pin, 4 pin, etc.) These cost about $ 20 ... good luck!

Situation 1: I can not open the video file extension. V Windows Live Movie Maker, any help?
Scenario 2: Using Windows Live Movie Maker 14.0.8091.0730 on Windows Vista SP2. I can import from my Panasonic SDR-SW20 video fine, but can not play. Everyone knows what the problem is.
Situation 3: Everytime I import a. MOD video file into Windows Movie Maker, it crashes, I Review to be more specific.
Actual MOD format is an informal name tape less video format used by some models of digital camcorders as JVC, Panasonic, Canon and Sony HD. MOD video files are nothing but modified MPEG-2 files with AC3 audio.

According my own experience importing JVC Everio camcorder. V files into Windows Movie Maker, I often run into the same problem as halfway stops because of the format input restriction of this software. Or worse, Windows Movie Maker sometimes fail to synchronize video and audio.
Windows movie maker will only accept video formats AVI, WMV, MPEG, etc. So if you want to import from files into Windows Movie Maker, you should use against the Windows Movie Maker converter to convert. v files to WMV, AVI, MPEG.

How can I register my PC games with my video camera?
I know most people use FRAPS to record the games I've tried it, but it reduces my FPS to 30 or thereabouts, and it is not a good thing with online games. My video camera has an S-video, A / V and DV ports, and the typical video-out slot (yellow). Everything I want to do is to video all my TV screens. I use my HDTV as my PC monitor via an HDMI / DVI cable. Thank you.
I dont think you can record with camcorder you unless you get a tripod and focus it on your TV, but who wants to to. You can get a capture card for around $ 100 some where.

why cant i view camera footage in widescreen on computer?
I have a widescreen digicamcorder (JVC GZ-MG130 hard disk hybrid cam). When i playback the footages directly from the camcorder onto 4:3 TV, the video is in the correct format (widescreen with black bars top and bottom). But when I import the video files onto my notebook and play it back with WMP or Windows media center, the video is stretched out to 4:3
How do I fix this.
Is the video turned into 4:3 or is this just a software problem.
I'd think JVC would know about that..

I bought a Samsung 173 MiniDVD DC this weekend and I want to go back to a MiniDV.?
Does anyone have Panasonic PV GS85? I will return for Samsung to Circuit City and will be charged a restocking fee need to buy it there. I had almost bought this one before I settled on a MiniDVD, but I keep having problems with burning, I want a more mild burning ... I mean, to put in my computer, using simple software and then burn it to a DVD if I want too. MiniDV will be the format for me or should I keep it out of this current camera I own? I can not give what is on the disks On the computer where I can do something for them, edit them and then burn. I can see miniDVD on standard DVD and the computer itself, which is nice, but I can not burn miniDVD to a second DVD. I really want the info on the disk in your computer, so I can do this.
Go with MiniDV. I work with MiniDV everyday life, because it is actually better clarity and also with the tape vs. disk you get half an hour more on Standard Play. Sure theres the luxury of seeing disks when they are finished, but if you think about it, you see things that can be easily edited with a DV camera. It can be a pain in the butt at first, but it's fun, and when finished with editing, you can see the whole movie in one without having to worry about fast forwarding or skipping some useless stuff. how to get Windows Vista to recognize my Sony camcorder?
I searched online and it says that the USB driver for my model of the Sony Camcorder is already installed on Windows Vista, but when I plug the camcorder in via the supplied USB cable to my computer, but does not recognize the camera. I have Sony MiniDV Digital Handycam model # DCR-TRV27. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I use Windows Movie Maker software.
ALL miniDV tape based camcorders require FireWire for DV-format video transfer. Add a FireWire port to your computer if it does not already have one - hopefully you have an available expansion slot. Firewire, IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same things. You also need a FireWire cable to connect the DV port of the camcorder to the FireWire port on your computer. USB will not work. USB-FireWire converter / Adapters will not work.
