I bought a Canon HF20 camcorder last year, got some shots I wanted to edit. The AVCHD format previously on my laptop I've used a free converter to convert it to another format so I can edit it on Windows Movie Maker to make a dvd out of it. well I did not pay $ 900 for and hd camera for nothing. Sony Handycam - Final Cut Express Trouble?

I have a Sony Mini DVD Handycam and want to catch thevideo in Final Cut Express. The camera has sony software that came with it, but it only runs on PC while I have a mac. When I connect it to my iMac, iMac recognizes his camera chip in the camera and allows me to download pictures but I can not figure out how to import video from video camera using FCE's capture tool. I have two questions abut the Sony DSR-PD170P Camera.

The DSR-PD170P does not come with any software program (page 9, user's manual).

Open Vegas.
Connect camera with FireWire cable.
Turn on camera in Play mode, Playback.
You should hear that 'burlp' sound from your computer, same sound you hear when you connect something to the USB port, like an iPod, etc. If not, pull cable out and stick it back in. Try both the camera port and computer port. Sometimes the connections can be a little loose.

If Vegas doesn't 'find' the camera (device), from the capture camera choices, try choosing another camera. You might have to use a generic one. That is okay as long as it works. I need an "RF converter plug" for an older Sears VHS Video Camera / Recorder / Player. Where can I get one?

I own a Sears VHS video camera / camcorder / player. My RF converter adapter (model number is: VM RF50AS) recently broke. It plugs into the side of the camera, near the headphone jack. It is an 8-branch connector where it goes into the camera. The other end is a two coaxial connector end, with an entry and exit to / from the camera / TV coax connection link. Connector end looking into the camera (the 8-arm thing) is broken. With this plugin, I can record in harnessing my computer with media center, or play my VHS tapes in the camera to a television with coax input on the back. Without this connector, can I still use my Sear VHS camera to record VHS tape in the camera. So I have to use a VCR with VHS capabilites, to play what I recorded. I can not connect the camera directly to a TV or my computer. I have an 8 branch RF connectors with a male coaxial jack (actually two of the other end male coax,,, one in, one out of the TV). Downloaded camcorder drivers, but computer won't recognize?

I went to Panasonic website to d/l the latest drivers for my digital camcorder. It acted as though it downloaded, I ran the program, asked to restart computer, etc. When I restarted and connected the camcorder via USB, it stated that it could not find software necessary for the camera?? What could be causing this? We've tried this now on 2 different computers.

When you download the drivers put them in a special folder like c:\camcorder and then plug in the camcorder. It should ask if you want to install automatically or if you want to select the driver to install. Tell it you want to select the driver to install. Select the location with the "Browse" button. Point it to C:\camcorder and it should find the drivers you downloaded. Note: You may need to unzip the drivers after downloading. Be sure you unzip them to c:\camcorder and if the file that downloads is an .exe file you will run it instead of doing the steps I described.

How can i capture video with orginal date and time stamp?

i have sony mini-dv dcr-hc38 camcorder. when i play the recorded video on tv from camcorder with av cable, the date & time are visible on tv-sceen. but, when i capture video to computer through firewire in avi format and play back, the date-time do not appear. camcorder settings are ok to record and trasfer date-time stamp.

If you have the option in the menu that you can select ON, it should show it. I find it distracting.

What is the best amateur video camera for projecting a movie on a big screen?

I want to try to make a film to to be projected onto a large screen for a local fringe Filmfest. There is no text, just music overlay. I am quite new here so do not laugh. I have used my flip video For Web and DVDs with success but not sure that works for projecting on a large screen. The application does not mention the 35 mm so I assume that a DVD is fine, but what is the cheapest type of video camera I could use for this because I really have no money. Ps. This does not look professional, I just want to be able to recognize what is on screen, and not get laughed out of place.

If the video is captured in good light, almost all camcorders will be fine if the data standard DV or HDV. This includes the Canon ZR900, ZR930 or Sony DCR-HC52. If you have given full video with your Flip - and it looks fine to you on a large television screen * it * should be quite similar to an even larger projected screen. Perhaps there is a nearby electronics store (Fry's, Circuit City, BestBuy, etc.) where you can take your DVD and get them to do a "test" for you to use their test / floor model, video projectors, so you can see for yourself ... Is HD stored on a standard DVD as good as HD in a blu-ray?

Many people dont know you can store hd on a normal dvd and watch it from a standard dvd player, so long as you dvd player is connected with an HDMI lead to an hd tv. hd is just a file after all so you can actually store it on a cd or an sd card even, although you would only get about 10 minutes of footage on, which is why you can get hd camcorders that record onto sd cards and mini dv. But...is hd coming rom a blu-ray any better than from a mini-dv or dvd? Please dont answer telling me about how blu-ray can store more etc, i know all that and i know you cant play blu-rays on a dvd. What im asking is, is hd content stored and played on a dvd with an hdmi enabled dvd player as good in quality as from a blu-ray player or does the blu-ray laser stream more information at once?

A DVD file is never higher than 800*600 in terms of resolution, and a normal DVD/DIVX player is NOT capable of reading a file of 1280*768 resolution which is the smallest standard HD file.
