I need a new microphone for my HDR-SR10?

I just got a sony microphone for my HDR-SR10. It works ok, but it sounds much as buit-in microphone. So im getting a new one. I want to get a shotgun microphone that has clear sound. I do not want to spend over $ 200. What mic would you recommend that works with my camcorder?

What is the benefit of a microphone with phantom power versus one without a camera? ?

I am weighing up buying either a rode NTG-1 versus and NTG-2 for use with a Sony Z1. What is the advantage of phantom power and in what context you may need an internal power source into the microphone? Thank you!

Condenser microphones typically needs for a form of power to the diaphragm to work. When you speak into a microphone, the diaphragm vibrates and the vibrations are translated into electronic impulses that result in the sound that sends to the radio recording side of things. When you're in a studio in the condenser can easily connect an external power supply to supply this power. * In most cases can mix studio bulletin boards provide phantom power via XLR cables. When you're not in a studio, you need a way to get the mic power - most good condenser microphones used in the area have a battery bay, or can use phantom power if your camera allows it. Low-end camcorders that use 1 / 8 "mic jacks can not supply phantom power, but if the MIC using XLR connectors, an XLR adapter (like those from juicedLink or BeachTek marked can supply phantom power) can deliver the mic power. In the case of the Sony HVR-Z1, it is dual XLR audio connectors. The power of phantom power from the camcorder battery. Personally, I use a battery in the condenser microphone so the camcorder's maximum available sliding time on the camcorder rechargeable battery. BUT, in a pinch (forgot to get new batteries or something else), I know I have a microphone power source using the phantom power (for my TO-825 or NRG SA-568).

It can be quite bewildering when choosing a camcorder, especially with so many available in various formats, combined with the array of different model numbers and opinions from various sources. If your primary consideration is to produce short video clips for publishing on your site, so there is no reason to go to extremes and buy the most expensive model. A cheaper model that offers the positive features mentioned at the end of this article will be fully sufficient.

Here is a quick overview of each of the major digital camera formats, which you should consider to produce videos to your website. There are other formats not listed here, but our advice is to select from one of the following three formats.

Mini-DV
Launched by Sony in 1995, DV (or Mini-DV) is the most popular consumer digital video format. DV camcorders provide what is without doubt the best quality in all home video formats, with all models have the ability to transfer video signals out to another device (such as a Windows or Apple Mac computer) via FireWire, also known as i.Link. An increasing number of DV camcorders also make it possible to copy the edited footage back to DV tape the camcorder using what is known as DV-in. This format offers the most choice and is the standard by which all other formats evaluated.

DVD
Hitachi launched first camcorders that record to 8cm DVD discs back in 2001, and several other major manufacturers soon followed suit. DVD camcorders use MPEG-2 compression before writing signals to disk. One of the big problems with DVD camcorders have been compatibility problems between DVD camcorders and DVD players, though these are quickly being resolved. If you plan to import your DVD footage to a computer for editing, you notice that edit DVD (MPEG2) compressed files is much harder than it is when you work with a format as DV or Digital-8. Review of applications (as bundled with camera) is not so good, and it is advisable to purchase third-party editing suites. However, the format is now very popular, despite the difficulties in editing.

HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
JVC is a company that is forward with its efforts to make hard disk recorder video more popular, and press the tape and disk based formats aside entirely. The Everio G Series camcorders are a good example of video cameras who use small internal hard drives very similar to the larger HDs used in all computers. The company's GZ-MG50 model, only one of many, the ability to record up to 7 hours at best quality. Apple iPod MP3 players use very similar technology and provide a similar level of interactivity with the files stored on them. HDD camcorders save files then can be deleted, moved or transferred like them on your computer or iPod. They are also much more flexible in your ability to access the clips on the hard disk before editing takes place. All the major manufacturers make models of different specifications to suit every pocket. A major drawback is that when the disk is full, you must download to a computer or stop recording.

Which ever format you choose, and at this point, we are using miniDV, remember the following four desirable requirements for the production of good quality videos your website.

Firewire compatible
External microphone jack to connect an external microphone for enhanced sound quality.
Remote Control, essential if shooting a video on your own.
Quality lens.

As the general consumer market favors ease of use, portability and price, consumer camcorders emphasize these features more than raw technical performance. For example, requiring good low light capabilities capture large chips, which affects price and size. Thus consumer camcorders are often unable to shoot useful footage in dim light. Manual controls need space, either in menus or as buttons and use more complex which opposes the requirement for ease of use. Consumer units lack many manual settings, often excluding video exposure, gain control, or noise management. For a beginner, entry level camcorders offer basic recording and playback.

For the more advanced user, high end units will provide better optical and video performance through multi-CCD components and name brand optics, manual control of camera exposure, and more, but even consumer camcorders which are sold for $ 1000 is not suitable for shooting in low light. When dimly lit areas is called for in camera or in post production, considerable noise distracts the viewer. We recommend creating a basic home studio with light to make the best use of your video capabilities and to produce good quality videos.

Ten years ago, consumer video editing was a difficult task, which requires a minimum of two recorders. There is now a standard PC with even modest power can perform digital video editing with low cost carriers editing software. Many consumer organizations Camcorders bunch Light (feature limited) version of this software, which makes some computers and more sophisticated software is highly recommended and is widely available at different price ranges.
