What camcorder should I buy to document a missions trip?

p1030038 What camcorder should I buy to document a missions trip?My youth group is going on a missions trip this summer and I need a camcorder to document it.
I need to be able to:
Shoot scenery with decent DOF
Shoot people running around
Handhold as well as use on a tripod and monopod
I would prefer a tape-based camera, but I'll have a computer and 1TB of space, so a disk based or flash based camera would be fine too.
HD is not necessary, but it'd sure be nice.
Finally, I may sell the camera at the end of the summer, so I'd want something that's been on the market long enough that I wouldn't loose a bunch of money in the deal.

Edit: by "Decent DOF" I meant that I want to be able to shoot with a narrow DOF.
